Meteor III

Land Speed Endurance Racing History as Told by the Legends of Speed

watchtrailerIn 1940, Ab Jenkins drove the Mormon Meteor III to 11 endurance  landspeed records that still stand today.  On one attempt, Ab set forth to drive as long as he could last…he stopped at almost 42 continuous hours, averaging 149 miles per hour.
The Meteor III had proven to be one of the single greatest automobile designs of all time, while Ab Jenkins showed the world that he was one-of-a-kind and  was destined to become a legend of speed.

The Meteor III Documentary tells the incredible life story of Ab Jenkins and the evolution of the three Meteor race cars.  Weaving together this remarkable story of courage and perseverance, today’s legends of speed pay tribute to Ab and the Mormon Meteor III.  History is revealed using restored original 16mm films and photographs, giving a detailed visual and auditory account of Ab’s legendary record breaking races.  After Ab’s death in 1956, the Meteor III remained an icon on display at the Utah State Capitol.  Ab’s son Marv rescued the Meteor III from decades of abuse and neglect by disrespectful tourists.  He restored the Meteor III to pristine condition, selling it to U.S. Ambassador John Price, a successful Utah businessman and renowned car collector.  Over the past year, John has completely rebuilt the 12 cylinder Curtiss Conqueror engine and has successfully driven this amazing icon of speed on the Bonneville Salt Flats.

Our film crew has documented the entire arduous rebuild of the engine along with interviews of Marv Jenkins and the Meteor III mechanics.  The story culminates in an historic running of the car at the Bonneville Salt Flats.
